Why I Am Running
The simple answer is because I love our great country. Our nation is deeply divided at the moment – and it has been for some time now. As passionate as I am about the issues, there are others who are just as passionate about their opposing view.
This polarization of our nation is not just a new phenomenon that has come about with the election of President Obama, it has been there for some time now. Maybe it started back when Clinton was elected with just 43% of the vote (Remember Ross Perot?). Then you have the 2000 election and the whole debacle with Bush v. Gore in Florida where Gore won the popular vote, but Bush won the Electoral College and thus the presidency. This division needs to stop and it needs to stop now. The far left and the far right of each party are pulling this country apart from their respective ends. It is time for the 80% of Americans caught in the middle to come together and work on solutions to move America forward. Career politicians are doing more damage every day they continue to show up but fail to represent us.
We need to work together on solutions for the betterment of our nation. In any negotiation, you have your non-negotiable items and your negotiable items. For each individual and each issue, the non-negotiable items will vary, but these non-negotiable items should be based on your values. Solutions will require some compromises on the negotiable items on BOTH extremes of the ISSUES. As long as you are NOT compromising your VALUES or your MORALS, but compromising on the technical and negotiable details of the issues, we can put forth solutions that will keep America moving forward and continue to be the leader of the free world. Bear in mind, as passionate as you and I are about an issue, there is someone equally as passionate about the opposite point of view. We can agree to argue until we are blue in the face, or we can work together on solutions. The my way or the highway attitude will not solve the serious problems facing America today.
My job as YOUR Representative in Congress will not be to go to Washington to simply vote NO on every bill. My job will be to go to Washington and represent my constituents by putting forth reasonable legislation that slowly and methodically begins to remove government from our personal and business lives as much as possible. There is a role and place for government in our lives, but it has reached the point that it is stifling innovation and draining the blood from our collective brains like a lead anchor around our necks.
I will work to put forth the issues that best represent the citizens of the 14th District of Texas as well as all citizens of this great nation. It has taken us decades to get where we are today, it will take decades to slowly unwind this monstrosity that has become the federal government of these United States of America.
